CPI Mackays invest in highly automated production solutions from Technique

CPI Mackays (Chatham, UK) the book printing arm of the CPI Group orders production solutions from Technique including Scheduling, Inventory, Business Intelligence and full DMI Data Collection across the entire plant.

Technique will allow Mackays to have complete visibility over production at the site with real-time feedback from press and bindery operations providing valuable information on waste and downtime. The Shop Floor Data Collection systems will cover 8 web presses including reel-stands and 8 different finishing resources.

The Paper Monitoring solutions will consume stock automatically from the Inventory system allowing complete control of the valuable raw material.
The Print Scheduling solution provides the overview and feedback of all production activities so key in an environment where jobs have a high number of components to manufacture.

Mackays benefitted from the new Advanced functionality in Data Collection v2.0 with highly automated installs on the new Timsons ZMR press and Muller Martini Corona Perfect Binder that need minimal operator input.

The Production Manager of the book printing company Andy Watts, comments "We were looking for a system that would help us get greater overall view on what was happening throughout the factory. The CPI Group produce more than 500m books a year and has manufacturing sites in France, UK, Germany, Netherlands and The Czech Republic. Mackays is one of six manufacturing sites in the UK and has a workforce of 300.
